This is the eighth time that Tim Burton and Johnny Depp have met up to make a movie together. You may think that it is just going to be another typical Johnny Depp role and he has a bunch of quirky moments. Luckily for us, the trailer shows most of the quirky moments that Johnny Depp has in the film. I don’t know why they decided to portray him that way in the trailer, I guess because that is what makes money, but I think a lot of fans are sick of seeing that typical Johnny Depp role and they want something a little more serious.

That being said, Johnny Depp did a great job in the role, which is to be expected. Michelle Pfeiffer also did a great job with her role and she has me questioning if she has somehow found the fountain of youth. I mean, she is still an extremely attractive woman. I am also thankful to report that this movie is nowhere near as funny as the trailer made it seem. Sure, there were some comedic moments, but the film did try to be serious.

When a lot of people hear the name Tim Burton, they picture gothic cinema. Of course, the film does have a gothic theme to it, but nowhere near as gothic as most Tim Burton flicks. Unfortunately, even though the actors did a great job in their roles, the movie did not do much for me.

First of all, there was just way too many sub-plots in the movie. Sure, sub-plots are okay, but you have to be willing to dedicate a certain amount of time to develop these sub-plots. Unfortunately, in Dark Shadows, there isn’t much time given to any sub-plot. Also, on the same note, Dark Shadows has a slew of characters, but there was barely any character development. If you are going to have a lot of characters, you have to be able to develop them on-screen or the audience is not going to care about them and they certainly won’t be memorable.

Lastly, I felt like the end of the film was just a big mess. I’m definitely not going to be giving out any spoilers, but when you see it, you will know exactly what I’m talking about. Tim Burton was given a golden opportunity, but he just didn’t do anything with it.

The director of The Hunger Games, Gary Ross, keeps the film at an extremely tense pace, which is what made the novel itself so very hard to put down. Also, Jennifer Lawrence gives off the performance of lifetime by staying intense and taking charge with the lead role. Believe it or not, the film almost hits the two and a half hour mark, but it certainly does not feel like it. At no point in the movie did I feel as if it was dragging its feet. As a matter of fact, you want more by the time the film is over. The movie just keeps running, much like the main character and you want to stick with her with every heart-pounding thud of her feet.

Fans of the novel are absolutely going to love the film. Unfortunately, with most novel adaptations, most people come out of the theater extremely disappointed. This is, without a doubt, one of the greatest novel adaptations ever to hit the big screen. So, if you are a fan of the novels, you are going to love it. If you are not a fan of the novels, I think you are going to love it.

You would think that the movie would be extremely confusing and to make it worse, it’s in 3D. The movie follows 6 super heroes that are trying to defend the Earth from a Nordic God, so you may think that the movie is just going to be confusing, ridiculous and have an intricate plot and wonder why they would even consider putting it in 3D. This movie shines and is absolutely none of those things.

Instead, the director, Joss Whedon, was able to create a movie that gives you the characters you love with great clarity and conviction. He makes these characters live and breathe on the screen. The Avengers is not your typical comic book movie that follows a certain structure in order to be successful. In my opinion, this movie is breaking the mold.

Whedon is mostly known for Buffy The Vampire Slayer and his unique vision of what a comic book movie should be is outlined in The Avengers. You could easily see the director, Whedon, sitting beside of fans in the movie theater cheering with them. You can tell he truly cared about the movie and wanted to make the best product that he possibly could.

The use of 3D in this movie is absolutely astounding. If you have been dying to see a movie in 3D that truly takes advantage of the format, The Avengers is going to be the movie that you have been looking for. The visuals in this movie are absolutely amazing and you have to see it to believe it.

TIP: When the credits begin, you are going to be tempted to get up and leave your seat, so you can stretch your legs. Even if you do stand up, make sure you stick around until the very end.
